Conference of our Law Students: “Legal professions and their future”

On 14 June, we held a very interesting conference at our main campus – the Conference of Law Experts on “Legal professions and their future.” The event was organised by the Law Institute of Collegium Humanum under the Honorary Patronage of:

  • HM Provost of Collegium Humanum – prof. dr. hab. Paweł Czarnecki, MBA, DBA, LL.M, MPH, Dr. h.c.;
  • The Foundation of Alexis De Tocqueville;
  • The Polish Federation of Entrepreneurs and Employers Przedziębiorcy.pl;
  • The Polish Federation of Hospitals;
  • Collegium Humanum Legal Analysis Centre.

 

The conference was divided into two panels, during which our guests talked about the advantages and challenges of the legal profession. Our speakers, who represent various legal professions, including attorneys-at-law, lawyers, judges, public prosecutor, church attorneys, tax advisors as well as restructuring advisors, made interesting remarks about their vision of the professions that they represent.

 

The following persons were the speakers at the conference:

  • Marzena Witkowska, legal counsel at PGRP, who delivered a speech on “Legal Counsel at the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Poland against the background of other legal professions”;
  • Jan Hambura, restructuring advisor, who delivered a speech on “A restructuring advisor – profession of the future”;
  • Izabela Ustymenko-Łukasik, legal advisor, who delivered a speech on “The future of the profession of legal advisor”;
  • Grzegorz Gąsior, a state official, who delivered a speech on “Lawyers in the organisation of elections”;
  • Judge Igor Tuleya took part in an interview and conversation with students.

 

The following students delivered their own speeches:

  • Maja Nowakowska: “The ban on advertising by advocates and foreign regulations in this context”;
  • Emilia Gizka: “Freedom of contract and prohibitions related to remuneration in the form of a success fee”;
  • Angelika Szydlik: “The prohibition to represent the opposing parties to a dispute by lawyers who are close to each other”;
  • Dominika Szatan: “Is the lawyer’s independence guaranteed by the prohibition to provide legal services under an employment contract?”;
  • Beata Fronczak: “The online activity of lawyers – informing versus advertising”;
  • Paulina Szydłowska: “The analysis of the possibility of merging the Bar of Advocates and the Bar of Attorneys-at-Law”;
  • Olha Kokhanets: “Lawyer in the cyberspace”;
  • Oliwia Chmielewska: “Will artificial intelligence replace lawyers?”;
  • Joanna Jagielska: “The law of new technologies as an area of law with a future”;
  • Krystian Kawaliło: “Legal Technology – new technologies in the work of a lawyer”;
  • Józef Boguszewski: “The analysis of the objections raised by the Minister of Justice regarding the enlisting of advocates. The analysis of jurisprudence of administrative courts”;
  • Agata Seżysko: “Removal from the list of advocates: quantitative analysis on the basis of data provided by ORA”;
  • Klaudia Borkowska: “Freedom of economic activity and the reliability of providing legal services by non-corporate entities”;
  • Joanna Kucharska: “Do we need an amendment to the Ammunition and Firearms Act?”;
  • Halyna Jarzyło: “The role of a lawyer in a modern democratic society”.

 

The conference made it possible for the participants to evaluate the main directions of the development of the legal industry. It also created unique opportunities to analyse the main regulations in the field of practicing the legal profession in accordance with internal corporate regulations as well as different provisions of the generally applicable law.

 

The organising committee of the conference was composed of:

  • Radosław Kostrubiec – attorney-at-law, Doctor of Social Sciences in the field of legal sciences, professor at Collegium Humanum;
  • attorney Wojciech Chrzanowski – advocate and church attorney, assistant at Collegium Humanum;
  • attorney Bartłomiej Solarz – attorney-at-law, graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, assistant at Collegium Humanum.
